The Integrated Monarch Monitoring Program (IMMP) is a national program to collect milkweed, flowering plant, and monarch use data from a variety of land-use types and regions in the US. This online course provides training on all IMMP activities as well as monarch and plant identification.
The IMMP is intentionally a robust program: it collects detailed information on monarchs and their habitat. Virtual training for this program takes 2-3 hours and includes quizzes relevant to the type of site you will monitor. Conducting IMMP in the field will take 1-4 hours. Teams of two observers are recommended for sites greater than 1 acre. If seeking a quicker, more garden-based program, check out the Monarch Larva Monitoring Project!
Note that users will be prompted to create an account in order to register for and access the course. If cost is a barrier for you, please email learn@monarchjointventure.org to inquire about a scholarship.
